Description of the test: Urea is a form of elimination of nitrogenous waste resulting from protein metabolism. Abnormal urea levels can induce reproductive problems (decreased fertility, presence of ovarian cysts and decreased conception rate). Regular controls of the urea level allow an improvement of the metabolic efficiency of the animals by adjusting the feeding factors, thus reducing the economic losses generated either by deficiencies or by excess of protein intakes. High urea levels can lead to poor digestion, lack of fermentable energy, or poor timing of ruminal degradation rates of proteins and carbohydrates. Similarly, it can be associated with disorders of the cheese quality of milk or even cause metritis. Adulteration of commercial urea milk is made in milk to increase the non protein nitrogen content.
